Zivi Nedivi and the F-15 with One Wing
4 air to air kills under its belt, this F-15 refused to die
When Pilot Zivi Nedivi and his navigator collided with an A-4 Skyhawk over Israel during a training mission, the F-15’s right wing was completely torn off. The A-4 Skyhawk disintegrated and its pilot bailed out. Zivi couldn't see the missing wing (obviously) because leaking fuel was creating a cloud, blocking his view of the damage. When Zivi gained control of the F-15, he used full afterburners and headed for a landing strip ten miles away. Due to the damage he had to land the fighter at nearly 300 mph. He barely brought the plane to a stop just 20 feet away from the runway barriers. It turns out you can fly an F-15 with only one wing due to its flat body which creates some lift. This F-15 was a veteran and had 4 air to air kills. Its wing was repaired, it was put back into service and went on to shoot down a Mig-23 as well.
McDonnell Douglas should be very proud and so should Zivi Nedivi who didn't let a silly thing like two wings keep him from RTB. Valor is in you. Set it free.
