Loyce Edward Dean: American Hero Buried in his Plane

As we go about our daily lives, sometimes we forget that our grandfathers paid the high cost of our freedom. One such man was Loyce Dean, a gunner on a TBF Avenger. Wounded in the foot from a previous battle, he jumped back in his Avenger gun turret and was killed in an air battle over Manila. The badly damaged plane managed to get back to the USS Essex. Due to his condition (extensive)Loyce was buried at sea in his plane. Wounded, he still fought on and paid the ultimate price for freedom.
