Harold Fischer: American Ace and POW
Veteran of 3 wars
Fischer joined the Navy to enroll as a pilot when he was 18 in 1943 but the war ended before he saw any action. That all changed when the Korean War started and he was picked to fly P-80 Shooting Stars in bombing raids. He got assigned to F-86 Sabres in 1952 and went on a Mig-15 killing spree, shooting down 11 Migs. Caught in a dogfight over China, he was shot down and taken prisoner by the Chinese. He tried escaping and was tortured for his effort. He spent 784 days in prison til his release 2 years after the Korean War ended. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!!! He served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam some years later and flew over 200 missions as an advisor. He was clearly an above average pilot but also an exceptionally brave American for putting himself in harm’s way. Valor is in you. Set it free.
