D-DAY THE INVASION OF EUROPE
2500 AMERICANS KILLED JUNE 6, 1944
On June 6, 1944 2,500 Americans were killed storming the beaches of Normandy, France. Under heavy machine gun and artillery fire, thousands of soldiers ran up the beaches and attacked entrenched Germans. Thousands more parachuted into the interior to cut off German resupply. 16 Medals of Honor were awarded (most posthumously) to men of Valor who put the lives of their fellow soldiers above their own.
