Charles J. Loring, Jr.

The American Kamikaze who won the Medal of Honor

Charles J. Loring obliterated a Korean enemy anti aircraft battery by flying his P-80 Shooting Star into it. It was causing heavy casualties on American aircraft in the Korean War and in an attempt to ground attack it with his guns, his plane was struck many times. Seeing that his fellow pilots were going to be exposed to it, and taking many fatal hits, he drove his plane into the guns, eliminating them with only a smoking crate remaining.

It takes Valor to end your life for your country and to protect your fellow warriors from harm. RIP American Hero and patriot. Freedom is not Free.
