Ace Tail Gunner: Wallace McIntosh

Downed 9 German Planes in Lancaster Heavy Bomber
Riding his bicycle 30 miles to the RAF recruitment center to join up in 1939, Wallace was rejected because of his poor education. A local Priest intervened and he was accepted as ground crew. Biding his time, he finally received a top gunner spot on the Lancaster bomber where he promptly shot down two German fighters. Promoted and used to teach gunnery, he was given a tail gunner position where he continued to down enemy fighters and bombers at will. Finally promoted to Flight Lieutenant, his last two victims were German night fighters bringing his total to 9 kills with several damaged. His actions were acknowledged and he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with bar, and Distinguished Flying Medal. His upbringing was poor, his education was poor but his actions were rich with Valor. Valor is in you. Set it free.
