The F-111 Aardvark T-shirt pays tribute to one of the most unusual and capable aircraft ever built.
Called the Aardvark because it was designed to hug the earth at high speed, the General Dynamics F-111 used a unique terrain-following computer that essentially flew the aircraft autonomously — screaming along at 300 feet, near the speed of sound, deep below radar detection.
Used in Vietnam and continuing in service through the late 1990s as an electronic warfare platform, the F-111 was also one of the most heavily utilized aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) — honored here with a dedicated RAAF Logo colorway.
One of the last swing-wing designs ever built, it featured a truly unique escape system: in an emergency, the entire front cockpit module — pilot and copilot together — was ejected as one capsule. It remains a favorite among veterans who flew it and fans of Cold War aviation.
