F-14 Tomcat Blueprint T-shirt
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a fighter jet with a huge cult following and a solid reputation as a top interceptor for the U.S. Navy. Originally, the Tomcat was built to carry an upgraded radar and the huge AIM-54 Phoenix missile, an anti-aircraft weapon, as it was the only fighter purposely designed to do so.
The F-14 was a supersonic, carrier borne aircraft that saw extensive service from 1970 to 2006 including the Gulf War where it provided air superiority and ground attack missions. Made famous by the movie Top Gun, it has since become one of the most famous of Grumman's "Cat" fighters.
The only other country to use the F-14 was Iran who claimed to have shot down over 160 Iraqi aircraft with the deadly Tomcat. It is still in operation today in Iran. The Tomcat's top speed was estimated at Mach 2.5. Grab one of these Tomcats in its delta-shaped, high-speed wing configuration.
