Waverly Woodson Jr.: American Hero Medic
Saved more than 200 wounded men’s lives while wounded on D-Day
When Woodson and his fellow men landed in Normandy on D-Day, their boat hit a mine and drifted til it was hit by an artillery shell. Wounded in the groin and thigh, Woodson (a medic) began to run to wounded soldiers all over the beach and treat them. For 30 hours straight Woodson saved lives on the beaches of Normandy. At one point he performed CPR on three British soldiers who had drowned trying to land their boat and successfully revived them. He was exposed to enemy fire the entire time and was hospitalized but requested return to the front lines anyways. He was the kind of American you want on your side when the going got tough. He was later awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions, with many making a case for the Medal of Honor. Valor is in you. Set it free.
