A veteran of several wars up until 1775, Sameul Whittemore was plowing his fields when he spotted a British brigade approaching. He ambushed the British soldiers, killed three of them and drew his sword attacking them further. He was subsequently shot in the face and bayoneted several times being left for dead in a pool of blood. He survived the encounter and lived to age 96.
