In 1986, a life hung in the balance!

Richard Reinheart, fading fast in Connecticut, needed a donor heart. One was found in Oklahoma, 1,400 miles away, with just four hours to deliver it. No civilian planes could make it. The Air Force called up Captain Lefforge and his FB-111 Aardvark! They screamed to Tinker AFB, grabbed the heart in a cooler, and rocketed back at over 700 MPH. The radar navigator guarded the precious cargo. In under two hours, they covered 1,400 miles, landing on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1986. The heart was rushed to Reinheart, who lived 23 more years. Built for war, the FB-111 proved its mettle as a lifesaving juggernaut!
